writers block

dont know what to write about, but there are things swirling in my head:

  • sunday night butterflies about going to work tomorow morning
  • new music i've checked out and taken a liking to: burial, cristian vogel
  • the horrors of teaching - kids swearing at you, brushing by you, and the praise you get from people when you tell them you're a london teacher
  • the gigs i've seen recently: beirut, electrelane
  • friends i've been making
  • an encounter with a fox
  • my perceptions of the class system as it exists in london
  • the bridge i walk across and ponder jumping off every morning on my trek to work
  • OR the way the wind and rain give way to brief moments of blinding sunshine (everyone squints when the sun comes out because nobody is used to it)
  • maybe i'll just do what im supposed to be doing right now- clean my toilet.

ho-hum.

Do As I Say...not as I do

Just a quick update on my life as it currently stands; if not for you, then definitely for me. Work is in full-swing again, entering week 3, and very much looking forward to Xmas break each day. Got a pile of books to mark, which is a dread of teaching. I have not been able to be creative because I've been busy with work, and maybe it's an excuse, but the fact of the matter is that teaching is really tiring.

Above is a picture of my school as it stood in 1936. Not much has changed.

.............scotland...............

Loch Ness (in search of Nessy)

picture competition, which one is better of the two?

Scotland: Edinburgh to the Highlands to the Isle of Skye to Loch Ness and back to Edinburgh (with a bit of whiskey here n' there)

Zubin MacGandhi of Bramp-dun. Heir of the Fijiwala-Lightwala Clan. Keeper of the Scottish Highlands.

Scotland: Edinburgh to the Highlands to the Isle of Skye to Loch Ness and back to Edinburgh (with a bit of whiskey here n' there)

G'day mates, this is the first chance I've had to catch up with my fanbase (existant or non?) about my recent goings-on. I had a week long break last week and ventured off to Scotland. 5 days in Scotland allowed me to oversee some brilliant architecture, awe-inspiring mountain views, the taste of fresh sea air (and delicious sea food), and intoxicating single malt scotch whiskies. The hospitality of the Scotish is to be commended. They take a genuine interest in their visitors (probably for the company of getting a little tipsy). In all, a great trip, and another check off the list. (I also made a trip with my dad to south-west England - Torquay, Devon, Stonehenge, and the pics will come soon. Stay tuned.)

A Cup of Tea?

Hello all, this is my London blog. A way for you to snoop around the details of my life that I wish for you to see. An update on things so far:

1) Got to London September 2nd, started work on September 3rd
2) Working as a teacher. Teaching Grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
3) Living in Tottenham
4) Sharing a flat with two dudes, Simon and Ian
5) Seen bits and pieces of the ancient sprawling mess formerly known by the Romans as Londinium
6) Staying content and happy
7) Drinking lots of tea

An update on things to come:

1) Travelling to Scotland - Edinburgh, Highlands, Isle of Skye, Loch Ness (Oct 19-24th)
2) Lots of teaching
3) Staying content and healthy
4) Drinking lots of tea

Note:

It's been a whirlwind since I got here. Setting up bank accounts, living space, transportation, kitchens, bathrooms, learning to be a teacher and focusing on the big picture. Its been no easy task, in fact, its been an immense challenge. The little english-muffin eating punks (ie. students) don't make it any easier here either. I'm getting the hang of it, slowly but surely. Living here is completely city. You've got to be tough; roll with the punches. I wasn't used to it, coming from the suburbs and living there all my life. It's no Toronto here, thats for sure. This is a really big city. You could spend a lifetime here and there would be parts of the city that would be completely foreign to you. Unconquerable. Unless you're a Roman of course. Or a Norman. Anglo-Saxon. I'll put up my own pics soon. Stay content, healthy, and happy.
A cup of tea? - You tell me.
